Cross stitch has come on a long way in recent years, with contemporary designs and vintage inspiration to suit style-conscious stitchers. Our friends at CrossStitcher magazine are celebrating their 20th birthday, so we thought we'd share a couple of pretties with you in honour of the event - come along and join the party...

Two of our fave designs from CrossStitcher are this embroidery hoop frame with a vintage rose on a candy stripe background, and this pretty painted frame with linen hanging ribbon. But we've also got a soft spot for this pretty china teacup cushion full of mismatched patterns, designed by CrossStitcher favourite Lesley Teare.

To celebrate 20 years of cross stitch, there are seven competitions on the CrossStitcher blog. You could win some Emma Bridgwater pottery, a Singer sewing machine, or even a subscription to CrossStitcher. Head over to the CrossStitcher blog to enter the comps or just to see what else is in store in their special birthday issue. We're sure you'll find something you'll like.

CrossStitcher issue 250 is on sale from today.
